What is Fictograd?

Fictograd (/fik-toe-graad/) is a city of undesignated location and population placed, loosely, somewhere on the North American continent, most likely within the confines of either the so-called ‘United States of America,’ the so-called ‘Estados Unidos Mexicanos,’ or the so-called ‘Dominion of Canada.’ It is one of several fictitious-litigious-vacuous-fatuous-cous-cous-unscrupulous-subconscious-subcutaneous-preposterous-contempuous cities in similar undesignated locations with undesignated populations. Founded in 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 global pandemic, Fictograd is an escapist paradise—a place where all troubles are left on the sidewalk, a Big Rock Candy Mountain for the non/sub/hyper/semi/pre/post/unconscious urbanite.

No, really, what is Fictograd?

It’s a newsletter. You click subscribe. You get emails. You read. It’s all the rage, these days.

Who is Fictograd?

Fictograd is all the Fictogrites that live in it, but the newsletter is written and created by William Aimé, an author, desk jockey, and escapist who goes by the moniker Axeman online. There’s a “People” tab at the bottom of this, you can read more about him there.

How is Fictograd?

A little underpopulated at the moment, but mayhaps that will change with the resurgence of the newsletter, scheduled for… *checks calendar*… any damn day now.

When is Fictograd?

Posts from the Dispaxches section will come whenever I feel like writing them. That’s a little vague. I have a schedule that I keep, and have recently added a specific spot in that schedule for creating posts for Dispaxches. So far it comes up about once or twice a week. In reality, though, you should expect things every other week, or maybe once a month. Maybe never at all.

Where is Fictograd?

Right here, on this substack, where you can subscribe for free.

You can also become a paid-subscriber for $5 a month, which will give you full access to the Fictograd archives, the ability to reply directly to posts with an email, and put you directly on the mailing lists for fictional series released through this substack. (There are none up-coming, and, in fact, billing is paused, so you can’t really become a paid-subscriber. When fiction starts to get released again, billing will be unpaused, and you can join then.)

Why is Fictograd?

We all need an escape. You, reading this right now, definitely need an escape. I mean, look at you—you’re reading an about section of a substack! You’re probably at your computer, either at work or at home, or sitting on the subway scrolling on your phone, or you’re on the shitter, or you’re in the back seat of your parents’ car and they’re arguing, or you’re on a real boring date and he’s telling you about his Warhammer 40k figurines, or you’re trying to go to sleep but the anxiety pixies won’t shut up for two god-damned seconds, or you’ve still got three weeks until vacation and need something to get you through. Whatever your reason, Fictograd has been an escape for dozens of others facing situations just like yours. Put it all aside for now and join us—escape to Fictograd.

An author with a patreon, a substack, and a bluesky. How original. My name is William Aimé, but most people call me Will. Sometimes they also call me Axeman. Support my work on patreon.com/Axeman885
